Bitter rival political parties no more.
Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. paid a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang last Wednesday, July 13, amid the planned alliance between the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and the Liberal Party (LP).
A short video clip of Belmonte’s meeting with Duterte was posted on Twitter by Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM). Duterte is chairman of the PDP-Laban party while Belmonte is the vice chair of the LP. The Speaker was accompanied by his daughter, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, during the visit to the Palace.
The Liberal Party, once the dominant political organization headed by then President Benigno S. Aquino III, is reportedly expected to coalesce with Duterte’s party to form the super majority in the House of Representatives.
