A former city mayor of Negros Occidental was among the latest to surrender to authorities and seek rehabilitation for his drug habit. Former Sagay City Vice Mayor Joseph Gerald Marañon, son of the late Governor Joseph Marañon, surrendered to the police and pledged to stop using drugs, Visayan Daily Star reported. Provincial police chief Senior Superintendent William Señoron said Joseph Gerald, nephew of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., “is willing to undergo rehabilitation.” Joseph Gerald was accompanied by his friend in surrendering to police, who were surprised. Several drug users had surrendered to authorities after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a crackdown against the drug trade.
