Asian Development Bank (ADB) president Takehiko Nakao went out of a Malacanang meeting on 13 July 2016 much impressed with its new occupant. “I was very impressed with President Duterte’s clear messages on building confidence [in] public service delivery, respecting contracts and transactions already approved and awaiting implementation, removing red tape, and fighting corruption,” Mr. Nakao said in a statement. BusinessWorld reported Nakao commended Duterte’s efforts to consult the private sector, civil society, and other partners to ensure a level playing field for business and uplift the lives of the poor. In the same meeting, Nakao affirmed ADB’s support of Duterte’s economic agenda, specifically his vision for peace and development in MMindanao through road-infrastructure rehabilitation, promoting small- and medium-sized enterprises, and local government capacity building.
